About Jennifer
Dr. Jennifer Ketzis received her PhD from Cornell University, where she focused on international livestock production and the use of medicinal plants to control Haemonchus contortus in goats. In 2001, after completing a postdoc investigating secondary plant compounds as sources of endo- and ecto-parasiticides, she took a position at Novartis Animal Health in Switzerland working on the development of natural-based products for dogs, cats and livestock. She then became an international project leader, leading teams in the development of ecto- and endo-parasiticides for dogs. Missing diagnostics and laboratory work, Dr. Ketzis decided to leave Novartis Animal Health and join Charles River Laboratories, Ireland, where she established a parasitology laboratory. She worked with several pharmaceutical companies designing and managing GLP and GCP ecto- and endo-parasite efficacy studies, completing over 70 regulatory studies, working with flies, lice, mites, ticks, nematodes and trematodes in poultry, horses, cattle, sheep, dogs and cats. In 2012, Dr. Ketzis returned to academia and joined Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine (RUSVM) where she teaches parasitology, clinical reasoning skills and One Health courses. From 2017 to 2022, she served as the coordinator of the MSc and Certificate One Health Programs. She currently is the Chair of the RUSVM Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, serves on the Executive Committee of the American Association of Veterinary Parasitologists, is the Secretary of the Tropical Council for Companion Animal Parasites (TroCCAP) and is Co-Editor-in-Chief of Veterinary Parasitology: Regional Studies and Reports. She also teaches in the Master of Professional Studies, Veterinary Parasitology program at Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine. Her research Is focused on diagnostic methods and regional parasites.
